Castleford Tigers Rugby League. In memory of Len Garbett.

Len Garbett was born at 32 Princess Street, Wheldon Road, the youngest of nine children, born to William and Rosina Garbett (nee Doidge).

The rear back bedrooms of the even numbers on Princess Street overlooked the rugby ground providing young Len Garbett, his family and neighbours, free viewing at every home ground.
In July 1935, just weeks after Castleford’s Wembley triumph Len signed semi-professional forms for the Club. Like most players he didn’t receive a signing on fee.Len eventually made his first team debut at York on Easter Monday 1938 and also played the following day, away against Leeds. Unfortunately his career was effectively ended when war was declared against Germany.
He was involved with the Castleford club in various different roles. Probably his proudest moment came when he was invited to become President of Castleford RLFC. He regarded it as a great honour, becoming only the third President following and remained in the position until his death in August 2009 which brought to a close his 74 year association with the club. This book is a great tribute to Len by Ian and Roy Garbett.
