ELLIS RUGBY CANADIAN LAUNCH IN NEWFOUNDLAND

The rugby heritage brand Ellis Rugby launched the label in Canada in early 2022. Whilst the Fall/Winter collection has been heavily marketed by Ellis Rugby representatives Doug Adams. And his team at the Doug Adams Agency. But, Benjamin’s Menswear is based in St John’s in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Couldn’t wait to start stocking Ellis Rugby. They ordered a collection of Ellis Rugby stock items and the response so far has been extremely positive.

St John’s is the capital and largest city of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Also, it is located on the eastern tip of the Avalon Peninsula on the island of Newfoundland. The downtown area is the cultural hub of St. John’s. And is a major tourist destination in Newfoundland and Labrador and Atlantic Canada.

George Street, a downtown side street above the western end of Water Street. Is the predominant home of the city’s nightlife. It holds numerous annual festivals. Including the George Street Festival in August and the Mardi Gras Festival in October. Many musical careers were kick-started on the street. And is busy nearly every night of the week.

St John’s Sporting Scene

As with the whole of Canada. Hockey and Basketball are two of the main sports in St John’s. Firstly, the Newfoundland Growlers are a professional minor league ice hockey team. That plays in the ECHL. Secondly, the city’s basketball expansion team Newfoundland Rogues joined the American Basketball Association.

Finally, the area has a strong vibrant rugby scene. With the Atlantic Rock, is a senior men’s rugby union team competing in the Canadian Rugby Championship. Rock play their home games at Swilers Rugby Park. As did the Rugby Canada Super League champions for 2005 and 2006, the Newfoundland Rock. Also, the city hosted a Rugby World Cup qualifying match. Between Canada and the USA on 12 August 2006. Where the Canadians heavily defeated the USA 56–7 to qualify for the 2007 Rugby World Cup finals in France.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Rugby Union. In conjunction with Rugby Nova Scotia, Rugby NB, & PEI Rugby Union. Announced that the Junior Atlantic Rugby Championship will return to Atlantic Rocks Rugby this July. Furthermore, the Junior ARC consists of the top male and female rugby players. In Atlantic Canada competing in the Under 15, 17, & 19 divisions. Over 300 participants will descend on the Swilers Rugby Complex. Between July 7th and 10th, 2022, to compete for the Atlantic Rugby Championship.

In addition, it was 2017 the last time Junior ARC was last held in Newfoundland and Labrador. And New Brunswick Rugby Union hosted it last year in Saint John. Also, the Under 17- & 19-Male Newfoundland and Labrador Rock are looking to defend their Atlantic Championship titles on home soil.

Ellis Rugby Fall/Winter Collection

The concept behind the launch range relates back to 1870. When the game of rugby was in its infancy. And there were a number of different rules being played by teams. So, on the 26th of January 1871. A meeting attended by representatives of 21 clubs was held in London. At the Pall Mall Restaurant on Regent Street. Ironically, this building is now the home of the Canadian Embassy in London.

The ’21 Club’ fashion collection from Ellis Rugby. Gains inspiration from this historic event which fashioned the game of Rugby Football. While many of these founder clubs subsequently disbanded.
