Iestyn Harris’s Career in Rugby
Iestyn Harris is the first man to play rugby league and international rugby league, then switch to playing rugby union and international rugby union before returning again to rugby league.
Harris was signed by Warrington at 16 and quickly established himself as a rising star. After transferring to Leeds Rhinos for a massive £375,000, he captained them to a Challenge Cup final win, their first major trophy in 30 years.
The new millennium saw Harris named as captain of the Wales national team before he decided to play rugby union with Cardiff in 2001. He became a key player in Steve Hansen’s Wales side and had a prominent role in their strong performance in the 2003 Rugby Union World Cup.
In 2004, Harris returned to rugby league, joining Bradford Bulls amid much controversy. In 2005, the team had a storming end to the season and won the Grand Final against Leeds at Old Trafford.
