Philippe Sella is a retired French rugby player who is widely regarded as one of the greatest centres to have ever played the sport. Born on February 14, 1962, in Tonneins, France. Sella played for France for over a decade. And his career was marked with many achievements that helped him cement his place as one of the best rugby players of his time.

Sella’s rugby career started at the age of 16 when he began playing for the local team, Tonneins. In 1982, he made his debut for Agen. And played for them for 18 seasons. He was known for his incredible speed and agility, which allowed him to make runs through the opposition’s defence. Resulting in him scoring tries with ease. Sella was also known for his defensive skills. Also, his tackling was a feature of his game.

Sella’s international career began in 1982 when he was selected to play for France against Romania. He went on to play for France for over a decade. Making 111 appearances for the national team. During his time playing for France, he helped the team win two Five Nations championships. Both in 1986 and 1989. And was a key player in France’s team that reached the 1987 Rugby World Cup final.
