Gerald Bosch is synonymous with excellence in South African rugby, particularly during his time with Transvaal Rugby. He made his provincial debut in 1972, immediately showcasing his prowess. In a memorable final, Transvaal defeated Eastern Transvaal 25-19, with Bosch’s contributions proving instrumental.
Early Provincial Career with Transvaal

Springbok Test Debut and International Success
In 1974, Bosch earned his first cap for South Africa in a test match against the British Lions at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria. Subsequently, he was selected for the Springboks’ tour to France later that year, playing in two test matches and five additional tour matches.
Additionally, Bosch’s performance in 1975 against the visiting French team was historic. He set a South African record by scoring 22 points in a single test match on 28 June 1975, once again at Loftus Versfeld. As a result, Bosch became a critical figure in the Springboks’ successes during the mid-1970s. Over his international career, Bosch scored 89 points in nine test matches and added another 43 points in tour games.

In 1972, Bosch was recognized as one of South Africa’s five Young Players of the Year. This accolade, alongside his consistent performances for Transvaal and the Springboks, solidified his place as one of the greats in South African rugby history.
