The 1871 rugby union match between Scotland and England played on 27 March 1871 was the world’s very first international rugby union match. The match was played at Raeburn Place, Edinburgh in front of 4,000 spectators.

    The world’s very first international rugby union match was in 1871 between Scotland and England played on 27 March. The match was played at Raeburn Place, Edinburgh in front of 4,000 spectators. The game was won by Scotland through a try and a goal from Angus Buchanan and William Cross to England’s lone try from Reginald Halsey Birkett. The team representing England was captained by Frederick Stokes of Blackheath, that representing Scotland was led by Francis Moncrieff.

Nēpia played in all 32 matches on the famous 1924–25 ‘Invincibles’ tour. Nēpia played in all their tour games in the British Isles, France and Canada. He is one of New Zealand rugby’s finest ever players.
