An Introduction to Ellis Rugby Jogging Bottoms

The Mens Ellis Rugby Jogging Bottoms are a loose-fit cut. This Classic Style jogging bottoms are an exceptional quality garment. They features fly front, side pockets, knee patches and contract waist band.

In the early years of the sport, rugby was a gentlemen’s pastime. Fashion and style were very important and smart uniforms for both teams and officials were worn. Both on and off the field. Referee or Umpires wore blazers and this tradition didn’t stop until the 1950s.

Further, in 1871 the first official “kit” consisted of an ordinary shirt and bow tie. Also, the kit included a thin vest over the top and heavy duty boots. Rules dictated that players at the school of Rugby should wear “dark serge trousers, black and scarlet striped jerseys and socks”. Also, the materials included “woven woollen material and hessian or leather for extra support and strengthening”.

On the 27th of March 1871. The first ever Rugby international had staged at Raeburn Place, Edinburgh, the home ground of Edinburgh Academicals. It is reported the English team had worn all white, with a red rose on its shirts and the Scots, brown shirts with a thistle and white cricket flannels.

The History of Rugby Attire

The match resulted from a challenge issued in the sporting weekly Bell’s Weekly on 8 December 1870. And signed by the captains of five Scottish clubs, inviting any team “selected from the whole of England” to a 20-a-side game played under the Rugby rules.

The Ellis Rugby Jogging Bottoms Vintage Fly Sweatpants feature a drawstring waist and ankle cords, fly front, side pockets, knee patches and contrast waistband. Smart Ellis Rugby embroidery and back printed patch.
