The England 1871 Rugby T-Shirt Navy is inspired by the heritage of the England Rugby team. The first international match began in 1871 against Scotland and by 1883 this had extended to a four nations tournament the predecessor to the Six Nations.

England have had many fine teams, including the team from the early 1920s. In the 1920 Four Nations Championship, England had finished a disappointing third behind both Wales the winners and Scotland as runners-up. But there was plenty of reason for optimism as England had only been beaten once by the strong Wales team in Swansea by 19 points to 5.

An Introduction to England 1871 Rugby T-Shirt Navy

The England 1871 Rugby T-Shirt Navy is inspired by the heritage of the England Rugby team. The first international match was staged in 1871 against Scotland and by 1883 this had extended to a four nations tournament the predecessor to the Six Nations.

Changes were made to the squad that started the 1921 tournament  The core of the team remained with Cyril Lowe, Ernest Hammett, Wavell Wakefield  Barry Cumberlege and Cecil Kershaw. They added the likes of Forwards – Tom Voyce, Freddie Blakiston and Dave Davies at Fly Half. Davies also took over the Captain’s role from John Greenwood.

England got revenge for their 1920 loss by defeating Wales 18 points to 3 at Twickenham. Tries from Cecil Kershaw, Cyril Lowe and a brace of tries from Alastair Smallwood. Ernest Hammett kicked a conversion and Dave Davies added a drop goal.

England Clinch the 5 Nations Grand Slam against France in Paris

Ireland fared no better at Twickenham. England scored tries through Freddie Blakiston, Bruno Brown and Cyril Lowe. Barry Cumberledge added a conversion and the talented Cyril Lowe added a drop goal in England’s 15 points to nil victory.

A trip to Inverleith on the 19th March 1921 once again saw England in outstanding form. They scored four tries in their 18 points to nil victory through Bruno Brown, Reg Edwards, Quentin King and Tom Woods. With Ernest Hammett adding three conversions.

Their final game was against France at the Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir, Colombes, Paris. 35,000 spectators packed into the stadium to see if France could defeat the favourites. The final score of England 10 points France 8 doesn’t do the English team justice as they dominated the game. England scored tries from Freddie Blakiston and Cyril Lowe combined with two conversions from Ernest Hammett. In response, France’s Captain and Centre Rene Crabos kicked two penalty goals.

England missed out to Wales again in 1922, but won back-to-back Grand Slams in 1923 and 1924.
