Prince A. S. Obolensky was a Rurikid prince whose family fled Russia after the Russian Revolution of 1917, settling in London.

Known as “The Flying Prince” he excelled in rugby, gaining two rugby blues representing Oxford University. In 1936 he scored 2 tries on his England debut in a 13-0 victory over the NZ. The game was the first time that England had beaten New Zealand in a rugby match. England would then be unable to defeat New Zealand again until 1973. During 1936 The Flying Prince would gain 3 more caps playing for England. On the outbreak of war, Obolensky joined the RAF.
