The Ellis Rugby Tongan T-Shirt. A classic design incorporating the vintage Tongan crest as well as Ellis Rugby branding. The vintage Tongan Crest features on the left chest of this T-Shirt with the Ellis Rugby branding on the arm.

The regions first introduction to Rugby Football took place in the early 20th Century through sailors and missionaries. The formation of the Tongan Rugby Football Union took place in late 1923.

Tonga beat Fiji 9–6 in their first test in 1924 played in the capital Nuku’alofa. However, Tonga lost the second test 14–3 and drew the decider 0–0. Another official test would not take place until 1973 when Tonga played Australia.

Tonga remained relatively unknown in Rugby until 1986 when Wales toured the South Pacific. During the Wales v Tonga match a mass brawl took place during the game between the two sides.  The two teams would then face each other again in the 1987 Rugby World Cup.

Tonga is the only team from the three Pacific Island Countries to fail to progress from the pool stages of the Rugby World Cup. Tonga is also one of just two nations were three players have been sent off during a Rugby World Cup.

Manufactured from satin touch 100% cotton. The Tongan Rugger T-Shirt features detailed embroidery on the vintage Tongan Crest. Also featured on this garment is herringbone detail on the vents and velvet tape on the neck opening. In addition a complex ‘2’ applique patch on the back with the subtle Ellis Rugby branding on the arm.

The Ellis Rugby Tongan T-Shirt is available in sizes S – XL.
