The Women’s rugby game has developed enormously over last 130 years plus years. The 2010 Women’s Rugby World Cup held in England. It is a great example of the progress made. Interest in the tournament was far higher than anticipated. It broadcast to 127 countries. And all 2,500 seats at the opening two days of pool games sold out.
The semi-finals attracted over 6,000 spectators, while the final drew a crowd of 13,253.
New Zealand won the competition by beating England 13–10 in the final. They began well when Carla Hohepa jinked through the England defence to touch down in the right corner.
Kelly Brazier added the conversion to make it 7-0. England bounced back when Katy McLean kicked a penalty to make it 7-3. Then New Zealand stretched their lead further with another Kelly Brazier three points.
Once again the Red Roses got back in to the game after some great work by the forwards. Charlotte Barras powered over and McLean added the conversion to draw level 10-10. But, then England infringed at the breakdown and Brazier was on hand to drill the penalty between the posts to make it 10-13 with 14 minutes to go. England tried hard, but could not break the Black Ferns defence
