In the 1958 Ashes Series, Great Britain lost the first test 25-8 to the Kangaroos in Sydney.

In the second test, the Lions were inspired by captain Alan Prescott who played on until the end despite breaking his right arm in just the 3rd minute of the game, Great Britain leveled the series at 1–all with a 25–18 win over Australia in Brisbane. The injury ended Prescott’s tour as a player. At half time, Prescott was offered a pain killing injection but refused, telling team manager Tom Mitchell “I just can’t come off, Tom. We would be two men short. We have got to win, so I had better help the boys”. Great Britain also lost Dave Bolton with a broken collar bone after just 17 minutes.

An Introduction to Vintage Rugby League Cap

The Vintage Rugby League Cap World Cup Great Britain is inspired by the history of the Rugby League World Cup. It features a retro Great Britain Rugby League Lions Crest applique on the front and classic ‘13’ applique on the side.

One of the great victories for Great Britain was at the 1972 Rugby League World Cup which held in France during October and November 1972. Australia were favourites to retain the title they had won two years earlier. New Zealand were also a major force. They had beaten the Kangaroos, Lions and Les Chanticleers in 1971. France were expected to be tough to beat on their home soil.

However, Great Britain exceeded expectations and defeated the Australians in the final at Stade Gerland in Lyon. The Australia team featured international stars, such as Bob Fulton and Artie Beetson. But Great Britain too included some outstanding players such as Chris Hesketh, Steve Nash and Mike ‘Steve’ Stevenson.

The turning point came with the game finally balanced. George Nicholls executed a big tackle on the Aussie Centre Mark Harris which resulted in the ball being lost. Great Britain skipper Clive Sullivan scooped up the loose ball. He then sprinted 80 yards down the touchline to score an outstanding try.

With every sale, Rugby League Cares receives donations as a charity that helps players transition out of the sport. Also, it supports players past and present who are enduring poor health or hardship.
