An Introduction to Vintage Wigan Rugby League Polo Shirt
Manufactured by Ellis Rugby, Vintage Wigan Rugby League Polo Shirt is the finest shirt with high-quality fabric. Wigan met Hull FC in the final of the 1959 Challenge Cup competition. The Cup staged at Wembley Stadium in front of 80,000 spectators. Hull FC went into the game as firm favourites. Roy Francis and Johnny Whiteley coached and captained Hull FC respectively. They had form team in the Rugby League. And already defeated Wigan in a game earlier in the season.
The Wigan Rugby League team contained some outstanding talent in their ranks. They showed great skill and energy straight from the kick-off. The large open spaces at Wembley seem to suit Wigan perfectly. Centre three-quarter Keith Holden broke the Hull FC defence. And ran 25 metres to score an excellent try. Then with Hull FC attacking in the Wigan half, the ball was spilt and Wigan Stand-off Dave Bolton was the first to react. He scooped the ball up and outpaced the cover. He did it before releasing Mick Sullivan to score a tremendous 70-metre try.
Following some clever work by Brian McTigue, he released the classy Dave Bolton. Again Dave ran in a long-distance try. Hull FC full-back Arthur Keegan kept the ‘Airlie Birds’ in the match. But Wigan members were well in control at half-time by 20 points to 4 points.
The second half continued in the same vein as the first half. Brian McTigue scored a close-range try. But it was the rapier winger Billy Boston that sealed Wigan’s great victory. He finished off an excellent passing move with a typical finish in the corner. Then he followed up a chip and chase from Dave Bolton and Boston. Who hacked ahead managing to ground the ball centimetres inside the in-goal area.
