Harlequins Rugby Classic Polo

This sample was produced for the famous Harlequins club. The Polo design was part of a collection Ellis Rugby created for the Harlequins.

The Hampstead Football Club was founded in 1866 and the first recorded game took place in 1867. The club was then renamed Harlequin Rugby Football Club in 1870, supposedly because the membership was no longer purely local and to retain the previously created “HFC” monogram mark. The word ‘Harlequin’ was found in a dictionary and all present agreed to the new name.

The Harlequins Rugby Classic Polo design features the two crests. The original Monogram when the club was Hampstead and the Harlequin when the club changed its name in 1870.
