The Rugby Heritage Brand - Our inspiration; In 1823 William Webb Ellis of Rugby School is responsible for inventing rugby football.
From that date onwards various forms of the game were established and following a letter published in The Times, a meeting was held on 26 January 1871, by representatives from 21 clubs at the Pall Mall restaurant where the rules of Rugby were adopted.
Sixteen years later the first lady of rugby Emily Valentine represented her school team in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland.
In 1895 following a dispute over "broken time" payments twenty-two clubs met in the George Hotel, Huddersfield to form the game of Rugby League.
