At its inception, the club, situated on the same grounds as the esteemed West Kent Cricket Club, flourished under the banner of the ‘Imperial Arms’ at Chislehurst. Its popularity soared, boasting nearly 100 members during its heyday.

Adding the Kentish Horse Crest to their Rugby Jerseys and Developing International Players

The transition in 1874 to exclusively playing Rugby rules saw the addition of the Kentish Horse badge to their Jerseys, solidifying their commitment to the game. Notably, West Kent FC produced two England Rugby internationals, Joseph Fletcher Green and Arthur George Guillemard, both distinguished Old Rugbeians.

Joseph Fletcher Green, a remarkable half-back, showcased exceptional skills, revered for his speed and field prowess until a knee injury halted his playing career at its zenith. Guillemard, the co-founder and a remarkable player himself, held a unique distinction as the first of only two individuals to occupy all five Rugby Union offices.

The club’s roster included other outstanding players like Walter Slade, a champion mile runner renowned for his drop-goal expertise, and R. Oliver, an imposing and fast-moving ball dribbler.
